Kaadas R8-5

The Kaadas R8-5 is a surface-mounted rim lock that brings proper smart lock features to doors where a mortise installation isn’t possible or practical. The Sweden FPC fingerprint sensor — the same trusted chip used across the premium Kaadas range — handles up to 20 prints fast and reliably, while PIN code and RFID card give you flexible backup options for every household member. Access is managed via Bluetooth through the Kaadas Smart app when you’re in range, with no separate hub or bridge needed.

Where the R8-5 punches above its weight is in build quality. Its thicker, high-strength bolts go beyond what standard rim locks offer, adding meaningful resistance to forced entry and tampering. Auto-lock activates every time the door is closed — no manual locking, no question of whether you remembered. The built-in magnetic sensor detects door open/close status, and defense mode triggers an alarm if the door is opened from inside while active.

A fake PIN feature masks your real code from anyone watching, and privacy mode blocks all external access at a touch. The R8-5 is also Dual Unlock compatible (as an add-on), letting one fingerprint scan simultaneously open both door and gate when paired with a compatible Kaadas gate lock. Power comes from 4 AA alkaline batteries, with a USB-C emergency port ensuring a flat battery won’t leave you stranded outside.
